Carbon Offset Disclosures
Last updated:
California's Voluntary Carbon Market Disclosures Act (AB 1305, California Health and Safety Code section 44475 and following) requires businesses that market or sell voluntary carbon offsets in California to publish details about the projects behind them. We publish them for everyone.
Who sells these credits
TrimCarbon is a business name of Raccoon Ventures Inc., a Canadian corporation registered in Quebec, at 73C Boulevard des Prairies, Laval, Quebec H7N 2T2, Canada. We sell subscriptions and one-time purchases of carbon credits. We don't develop projects or hold credits ourselves: our supplier, CNaught Inc., buys the credits from projects listed on independent carbon registries and retires them.
How credits are chosen and retired
- When a payment succeeds, we order credits for the kilograms of CO₂ it covers from CNaught, in a CNaught account kept for that customer.
- CNaught fills each order from its portfolio, which mixes projects that avoid or reduce emissions with projects that remove CO₂ from the atmosphere. CNaught selects the projects and the split; we don't choose individual projects for an order.
- CNaught retires the credits on the project's registry, which permanently cancels them so they can't be used or sold again. Each order's certificate shows which projects it drew on.
The Terms and Conditions explain what this does and doesn't mean for your flying.

Impact
The Impact portfolio is our recommended portfolio for maximizing your climate impact while minimizing your risk. The portfolio is highly diversified and contains the full range of project categories based on Oxford's principles for carbon offsetting.

- Risk of reversal
- Nature-based projects like this one face some risk of reversal. Carbon storage may be affected by natural hazards such as wildfires, flooding, and escalating climate change impacts. Additionally, human-driven factors such as changes in land use or local governance structures can also impact carbon storage.

Predio Las Piedras
Predio Las Piedras is a community-run restoration project in Veracruz, Mexico that safeguards 34.52 hectares of native pine-oak forest by preventing fires and illegal logging while fostering natural regeneration to maximize carbon sequestration.

If a project under-delivers or is reversed
Two safeguards apply if a project fails to deliver:
- Registry buffer pools. For projects that store carbon, such as forests, most registries hold back a share of every issuance in a buffer pool. If stored carbon is lost, for example in a fire, the registry cancels buffer credits to make up for it. Each project's “Risk of reversal” above describes its exposure.
- The CNaught Guarantee. CNaught states that if a registry cancels a project, or suspends it for more than 12 consecutive months, within three years of a purchase, CNaught replaces the affected credits tonne for tonne with credits from one of its portfolios, at no extra cost. According to CNaught, it covers credits bought for immediate retirement after April 3, 2025 and retired within six months of purchase. See the full terms. CNaught confirmed to us in writing in October 2026 that the Guarantee covers orders placed through TrimCarbon's accounts.
Removals delivered in the future. CNaught portfolios can include technology-based carbon removals bought for future delivery: they are paid for now, but the removal happens and is credited later. Until then, the removal is a projection. It can arrive late or fall short of what was planned.
Checking the numbers yourself
Each project's registry page, linked above, publishes its project description, the protocol it follows, its monitoring and independent verification reports, and every issuance and retirement. Those documents contain the data and calculation methods needed to reproduce and check the number of credits issued. The issuance figures above cover the whole project, not just the credits retired for TrimCarbon customers.
If you make claims about your credits
If you're a business operating in California and you use credits bought through us to claim that your company or a product is carbon neutral, net zero or similar, California requires you to publish details about those credits and claims yourself. This page and your order certificates give you the project information. See also what you can say about your purchase.
