# TrimCarbon > TrimCarbon sells carbon offsets to general-aviation pilots, flight schools and flying clubs, priced per kg of CO₂ from their flight hours. Pilots pick an aircraft and the hours they fly, or import their logbook; TrimCarbon buys and retires independently rated carbon credits for that amount of CO₂ through the carbon credit supplier that fills its orders, and issues a certificate for every order. TrimCarbon is operated by Raccoon Ventures Inc., Laval, Quebec, Canada. The site is available in English (default, no URL prefix), French (/fr), German (/de), Brazilian Portuguese (/pt), Spanish (/es) and Italian (/it). Prices are in US dollars. Every page below has a Markdown copy: add .md to its URL (index.md for a home page), for example https://trimcarbon.com/pricing.md or https://trimcarbon.com/index.md. ## How emissions are calculated - CO₂ = flight hours × the aircraft type's fuel burn per hour (about 75% power in cruise) × the fuel's emission factor. - Avgas: 8.31 kg of CO₂ per US gallon (about 2.20 kg per litre), the US EPA factor. - Jet fuel: 3.15 kg of CO₂ per kg of fuel (ICAO's calculator uses 3.16). - Figures cover burning the fuel only, not producing or transporting it, and not non-CO₂ effects such as contrails. - Example: a Cessna 172 Skyhawk burns about 10.6 US gallons of avgas an hour, about 88 kg of CO₂. - Airliners are listed per passenger; business jets for the whole aircraft. ## Pricing - Monthly plan: $0.036 per kg of CO₂, billed each month. Minimum 140 kg a month (about $5.04). - Yearly plan: $0.035 per kg of CO₂, billed once a year, paid upfront. Minimum 250 kg a year (about $8.75). - Volume rates (yearly plan only) apply to every kg when the year's amount passes a threshold: 5% off above 1.5 tonnes, 10% off above 3 tonnes, 15% off above 5 tonnes. The monthly plan has one rate. - One-time purchase: $40 a tonne (1,000 kg), in whole tonnes from 1 to 15, with no subscription. - Above 15 tonnes a year (schools, clubs, fleets): custom pricing on request. - Plans renew automatically until cancelled, and can be cancelled anytime from the account. - Example: an hour in a Cessna 172 Skyhawk costs about $3.17 to offset on the monthly plan. ## How the credits are chosen - Credits are bought through the supplier that fills TrimCarbon's orders. The supplier builds diversified portfolios guided by the Oxford Offsetting Principles. - The supplier says fewer than 3% of projects on the market are eligible for its portfolios, and only buys credits from projects highly rated by at least one of four rating agencies: Sylvera, BeZero, Calyx Global or Renoster. - Credits are issued and retired on public registries such as Verra, Gold Standard, ACR (American Carbon Registry), Climate Action Reserve and Puro.earth. - Portfolios mix emission reductions (avoidance) with a smaller share of carbon removals. Avoided emissions are not removed from the atmosphere, and nature-based removals can be reversed, so offsetting does not cancel out a flight's emissions. Cutting fuel burn comes first. ## Key pages - [Home](https://trimcarbon.com/): what TrimCarbon is and how it works - [Pricing](https://trimcarbon.com/pricing): price calculator and rate card - [Emissions calculator](https://trimcarbon.com/emissions-calculator): CO₂ by aircraft type and flight hours - [Logbook import](https://trimcarbon.com/import-logbook): CO₂ from a logbook export, read in the browser and never uploaded - [How credits are vetted](https://trimcarbon.com/process): the supplier's project screening, ratings and registries - [Registry](https://trimcarbon.com/registry): certificates of retired credits - [Who it is for](https://trimcarbon.com/for) - [For Individual Pilots](https://trimcarbon.com/for/individuals) - [For Flight Schools](https://trimcarbon.com/for/flight-schools) - [For Flying Clubs](https://trimcarbon.com/for/clubs) - [For Gliding Clubs](https://trimcarbon.com/for/glider-clubs) - [For Skydiving](https://trimcarbon.com/for/skydiving) - [For Helicopter Schools](https://trimcarbon.com/for/helicopter-schools) - [Fleet and high-volume estimates](https://trimcarbon.com/contact/high-volume) - [Our story](https://trimcarbon.com/story) - [Contact](https://trimcarbon.com/contact) ## Logbook import - Drop a logbook export to get the CO₂ of every logged flight, by aircraft type and by year, a yearly plan sized on the last 12 months, and one-time options. Why a 172 is (mostly) a CO₂ story](https://trimcarbon.com/expertise/do-small-planes-make-contrails): A Cessna 172's ceiling sits about 12,900 feet below the lowest altitude where jet exhaust makes contrails on a standard day.
